SAFF receives commendation at IChemE Global Awards

22 November 2022

EPOC Enviro’s SAFF technology has taken out a ‘Highly Commended’ within the ‘Water’ category at the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Global Awards held in Manchester, United Kingdom, on 17 November.

The IChemE awards are the most prestigious within the chemical engineering profession, and recognise initiatives being undertaken across the planet, with a particular focus this year on sustainability.

Our award submission, which was authored by foam fractionation expert Paul Stevenson, and completed in collaboration with our European distributors Envytech Solutions AB, described the development of Surface-Active Foam Fractionation (SAFF®) at a commercial scale to remove target PFAS contaminants to below regulatory limits.

The submission focused on SAFF’s inherently sustainable ability to remove and concentrate PFAS from large flow rate groundwater, surface water and landfill leachates using the power of air, enabling their permanent removal from the environment.

Particular attention was paid to the very first SAFF unit, which was installed at a Defence site at Oakey in Queensland – Australia; and our pioneering treatment of landfill leachate at Tveta – Sweden.

Despite each site having significantly different background chemistries and climates, they each exceeded target PFAS removal criteria.

We extend our congratulations to the award winner, and overall winner across all categories, Sellafield Ltd and National Nuclear Laboratory. Congratulations also to Hydroxsys, who took out the other Highly Commended award within the Water category.
